Becky didn’t even come home last night. I don’t know what she was doing, but I’m pretty sure it was something similar to my experience.

My mind was haunted by questions that needed answering. Who was the mysterious guy that had seduced me in the middle of the night? The same one that danced with me, coerced me into making love? I enjoyed every part of it and I needed to know who it was.

I sauntered out the door and went to Kev’s room to talk to him about it. I didn’t know what I was going to say, because it was a strange subject to talk about with a guy, even though he was my best friend and all.

When I arrived, Kevin sat on his bed, Ryan stood at the door.

“Hey, you guys can I—”

I peeked over his shoulder. On Ryan’s bed lay a notebook with blue pages. On the table beside his bed was the mask that the stranger from last night had worn.

“It’s you!” I squealed and I took Ryan’s hands in mine.

“What?” he stammered.

“Sorry, Kev,” I said. He was gawking us and stood up.

I looked back at Ryan, who seemed confused. “That book, the note on my bed, your mask!” I pulled him to the hallway and took him to my room, dragging him along. I didn’t want Kevin to have to listen to this awkward conversation.

“It was you wasn’t it?” I said.

Ryan smiled and squinted at the same time.

“You swept me off my feet last night. I want to be with you. Would you be my boyfriend?” I said. I knew I sounded incredibly dumb, but I was so love struck, I just wanted to get it out there, in the open.

He flushed and put his hand behind his head. “Uh, yeah, sure. Cool,” he said. “But I have to go to class now. Can we talk about this later?”

“Sure,” I said and hugged him tight. He was glowing red and I wondered if it was because of my straightforwardness. Then he left again in a hurry.

I heaved a sigh, turned around to face the window and thought about the wonderful sex we had last night.

Suddenly, I felt a finger drift along my neck, brushing aside my hair. A warm breath soothed my skin and I closed my eyes, feeling his lips on me again.

“You’re back,” I muttered.

But when I turned around, it wasn’t Ryan. It was Kevin.

“What?” I stammered.

In his hand he held the mask. He raised it, placed it over his eyes, and I recognized the face that had given me the deepest, darkest pleasure.

For a moment there was only silence between us. I continued to stare at him, the man in the mask.

“How did you …” I said, my fingers trailing his jaws. His dark brown curls swirled around my fingers.

“It was me the whole time, Emily.”

“But the note, and the mask, they were on his—”

“I accidentally put the mask there when I came home last night and Ryan borrowed my notebook.”

“Oh,” I said and gaped at his marvelous face, the fine ridges, his smooth, but rugged skin.
